Epicycles

Some people, when they’re wrong, get quieter. They recalibrate. They move on.

Others build.

They build explanations and frameworks and alternative readings of events. They find new angles. They do the work. And the work is genuinely impressive sometimes — you have to give them that. It just points in the wrong direction.

I’ve watched people do this. Build something intricate and careful out of the wrong materials, and then defend it because of how much work went into it.

The sunk cost of being wrong.

At some point the model stops being about truth and starts being about the person holding it. That’s when you know.

The moment you realize the map was never going to get you there.
