The loneliness is real. That part isn’t in question. There are a lot of reasons it’s harder than it used to be to meet people, to trust people, to risk the kind of disappointment that comes with actually knowing someone. Those reasons are worth taking seriously.

But the solution being offered isn’t a solution. It’s a product. It’s designed to feel like enough so that you stop looking for the real thing. And it works, which is the problem.

The song isn’t an attack on the people who end up there. It’s about what’s being sold to them, and what it costs.
